The Best Beers to Drink this Winter

Posted by admin on November 10, 2016

Drinking beer in the winter when the colder weather comes around is a great way to obtain that warm feeling in the pit of your stomach. Whether you want to sit in the comfort of your home or engage in a social drink with friends at the pub, we know what beers will be perfect for you this winter.

Tawny Owl

This delicious British beer is a classic from the West Country, with a malty nose and hints of toffee and citrus fruit throughout. Brewed in Taunton, Somerset, this beer excels flavours of biscuit, malt and fruit with a bittersweet finish. The Tawny Owl is a 3.8% beer, which has won a number of competitions in the past including being a finalist in the Champion Beer of Britain Competition and a two-time winner of the Good Beer Guide’s ‘Beer of the Year’.

Trelawney

The unique and exquisite Trelawney beer is a blend of both English and South Australian hops, giving it a truly distinctive and exclusive flavour.  The Trelawney beer is named after a Cornish folklore, so it’s a loyal and well-loved beer within the South West of England, but is just as loved elsewhere! This beer has a faint apricot aroma with peach and toffee tastes and a toasted bitter finish. At 3.8%, this beer is the perfect choice for a few down your local.

Tribute

Another South Western favourite, the slightly stronger Tribute beer is 4.2% and has a light, zesty easy to drink taste. With zesty orange and grapefruit flavours, this Cornish classic has a slightly different palate but is nonetheless just as enjoyable! This beer is the perfect accompaniment for most meals, too, and you can enjoy it with chicken, gammon or fish making it the ideal alternative to those who are not wine drinkers.

Though there are other beers available to enjoy throughout the colder months, here at The Nags Head Tavern, we are currently stocking these three fantastic, South West beers and ales.
